THE NIGERIAN SENATE ORDERS THE INVESTIGATION OF THE MURDERED NYSC MEMBER IN ABUJA.

The senate on thursday resolved to probe the untimely death of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC); Miss Angela Linda Igwetu
It, therefore, mandated its committees on youths, health and police to investigate the tragic incident and report back to the Senate in two weeks. This resolution followed an adopted Order 42 and 52 raised by Aita Aidoko representing Kogi-East senatorial district.
In his presentation, Aidoko said, “Mr. President, I came under Order 42 and 52 of the rules of the Senate because of the unfortunate incident that happened where a youth corps member was killed by a trigger-happy policeman.”The lawmaker continued, “Mr. President, from the onset, with the assent of the compulsory treatment of gunshot victims bill in December 2017. Victims of gunshot and car accidents can now receive immediate treatment in the hospitals without police report.
“Mr. President, this was a bill that was passed and the President assented to it. But despite this, Mr. President, two nights ago, Miss Linda Angela Igwetu, serving in Abuja was allegedly shot by a trigger-happy police officer.“The deceased was to pass out from the National youth Service Corps, NYSC, programme today July 5, after a compulsory one year service in Abuja.
“Her place of primary assignment was at one company at Mabuchi, an outskirts of Abuja metropolis. She finished work late 11pm Tuesday, and joined a few friends for a hangout in excitement of her expected pass out scheduled today.
“She left for home around 2am Wednesday and was shot near Ceddi plaza around Area 10 by a police officer who was well identified. The bullet shot Angela on her side inside a vehicle and, she began oozing out blood.
“She was rushed to a hospital. But they refused to treat her until they see a police report. Despite the fact that they saw the presence of some police officers. And while the deliberation was going on, Angela passed out.”
In his contribution, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa said;

“I wonder the kind of trauma that her family will be passing through now as they were already preparing and expecting to welcome their daughter after the NYSC programme only to receive her remains. It could be quite traumatic”.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, before hitting the gavel in approval, said, “If they had treated her she may not have died. This is an avoidable death. But until we begin to hold people accountable to this kind of incident, they will not stop. After all, what is the purpose of the law? Is it that they were not informed that the law exist? We are still living in the past but now we have a law that must be obeyed.”
Meanwhile, the upper chamber observed a one-minute silence for the deceased.

SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR STUDENT VISA IN NIGERIA

Hi there, welcome to spherical updates where timely information and news updates from round the globe are made available for you.
But today and right in this article, our major concern will be focused on the simple steps a student who has been granted admission abroad could get his/her visa ready for flight.
Normally, there are several countries that Nigerians travels to for higher education. Some of the countries are however more popular than others due to factors like work opportunities, cost of education, immigration policies, etc.
We have picked out the top five countries from the long list and simplified the application process for all five.
The five countries are Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Cyprus, and Australia.
At the mention of a Visa, you might get scared. Don’t worry; getting a student visa is not rocket science. With this list, you’ll have everything you need. Most student visa applications have similar requirements.
They all require you to provide the following:-

1. Get Proof of Admission

The very first thing to do when applying for  any student visa is that; you need to make sure you’ve been admitted into a certain school/college in the country you want to travel to.Your admission letter (or confirmation of enrollment certificate in the case of an Australian student visa) will stand as a proof of admission.

Secondly; Get A Valid International Passport

This is important; if the expiry date of your passport is close, make sure you renew it months before you intend to submit your visa application.Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months after your visa is granted.

Thirdly; Make ready Your Proof of Financial Support

The step I would like to call 3rd is that you need to provide proof that you’re financially capable of paying your school fees and living expenses abroad. They want to know that you won’t be a burden to their government. You can do this by providing bank statements showing sufficient funds.
If you’ll be attending school on a scholarship, provide documentation which verifies your scholarship e.g. your scholarship letter. Before you apply, check for tuition and living costs of studying in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States, and Dubai.

Fourthly; Make sure your  Academic Transcripts or Certificates Needed are intact

You also should provide original copies of transcripts, exam certificates, and certificates earned from all schools attended prior to the school you want to attend. You just need to be able to present documents which show your past academic performance. You can also decide to attach a resume of documents from your current or previous place of work.

Furthermore; Get Passport Photographs

I believe this to be public knowledge, of course you need to take passport photographs for every visa application. However, every country has different specifications on photo dimensions and numbers. For example, for the U.S Visa Application, the passport picture dimensions are wider than the regular passport picture.
Make sure you check ahead and tell the photographer what you’re taking the picture for. They usually know the correct dimensions.

Moreso; Get a Visa Application Form

The first major step in your student visa application is filling an application form. Most countries have a dedicated website for online applications. For Australia, United States, United Kingdom, Dubai and Canada.

Make sure that you make provision of funds for Visa Application Fee

With the application form, you need to pay an application fee. The application fees for:
Canada – 150 Canadian Dollars – approximately 44,400 Naira
United States – 160 US Dollars – approximately 57,700 Naira
Dubai – depends on the university but can range from AED 2720 i.e. 266,950 Naira
United Kingdom – £322 + the health surcharge which is £150 per study year. For a one-year program, that is approximately £420 – 205,030 Naira
Australia – 560 Australian Dollars – 161,390 Naira

      Additional Requirements

Apart from the mentioned requirements, some countries require additional things as part of their visa application process. For example, for a Canadian or Australian Visa, you may need to get a medical clearance and Criminal Record Check/police report. These will attract extra costs.

     Attend a visa interview

For most first-time visa applications, the respective embassy will require you to attend a physical interview and present all your supporting documents.Don’t be nervous; just make sure you have everything we’ve listed. You should do further research just to be safe.

I hope that was helpful?.....Feel free to drop your comments below.

PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW IN ORDER TO CHECK YOUR JAMB MOP UP EXAMS RESULTS

JAMB Releases Results Of Rescheduled 2018 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Tuesday, announced the release of the results of the mop up examination conducted for candidates, who were rescheduled for the UTME on Saturday, May 26.
The results can be assessed on JAMB portal – www.jamb.org.ng. The Board’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the announcement in an interview with sources , in Abuja.
The board had recently, conducted a mop up examination for over 12, 000 candidates in some of its centres across the country.
This included those whose biometrics could not be captured during the initial period of the UTME in March, those who were yet to see their results and have not been involved in any form of malpractice.
Others included those who were unable to print out their e-slip before the earlier examinations and those whose centres were cancelled for suspected malpractices.
On the admission process, Benjamin told sources that the board frowned at some institutions that have breached the constitutional guidelines for the entire process by making advertorials before the policy meeting.
He explained that all institutions must note that they are not to make any form of adverts for admissions into their schools until after the policy meeting.
According to the spokesman, this is because the meeting is the only authorised body that approves admission process for every preceding year.
“Advertising before the policy meeting is a violation and abuse of the entire process. “They must recall that at the meeting, all proceedings, rules and regulations guiding the admissions are discussed and unanimously approved by all stakeholders.
“However, a list of institutions that breached this rule are being compiled by the board and to be forwarded to the appropriate body for sanction.”
Benjamin added that in view of the above, those who intend to make admission adverts before the slated meeting, are urged to have a rethink and halt.
He also noted that the 2018 policy meeting of the education sector was coming early to allow institutions begin an early admission.
