NIGERIA: SOUTH-EAST SENATORS ACCUSES PRESIDENT BUHARI OF BEING BAIS IN HIS APPOINTMENT DECISIONS

The Senate's plenary session for Thursday, July 19, was rowdy after its Senate President Bukola Saraki, read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari seeking legislative confirmation of appointments into the board of the Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency. 
The Senate session was rowdy for more than 30 minutes as southeast senators protested alleged biasness of the Buhari's administration - The senators from southeast accused President Buhari of favouring a section of the country in his appointments.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu rised on a Constitutional Point of Order and draws the attention of the Senate to the manner at which the government is making appointments to favour only a section of the country which is contrary to the Federal Character. 

Saraki asked the committee on Federal Character investigate Buhari’s appointments and present a report to the chamber on Tuesday. The Senate became rowdy with those in support of the federal government and those in support of the order raised by Senator Ekweremadu. PAY Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, July 17, declared seats of deceased lawmakers vacant.

The senators - Mustapha Bukar of Katsina North senatorial district and Ali Wakili of Bauchi South senatorial district - died on April 4, 2018 and March 17, 2018, respectively. The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yakubu Mahmood, said the House of Representatives also declared the seat of late Umar Jibril of Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency vacant.
